Verizon offers 'free' iPhone 7 with trade-in as part of Black Friday deals

Looking to match T-Mobile, Verizon on Wednesday announced its own Black Friday deals, including a nearly identical trade-in offer letting people get a "free" iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.

People have to trade in one of 13 eligible devices, the carrier said. These include the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, the 7/7 Plus, various LG and Samsung phones, and the Moto Droid Turbo 2.

The deal begins Thursday online and Friday in stores, and ends on Sunday. Customers have to pay for the new hardware upfront, only getting the whole of the discount over 24 months' worth of credit. Trade-ins also have be in "good, working and cosmetic condition."

Separately, switchers to Verizon can get a $200 prepaid Visa card when they buy a smartphone on a payment plan. The offer is valid for up to four lines, with a maximum payout of $800.

The carrier's other Apple-related deals are mostly iPad-focused. People can get $250 off an iPad if they buy an iPhone simultaneously, or buy a 32-gigabyte iPad mini 2 for $99 — with a two-year contract. The Mini deal is only valid Thursday and Friday online, and Friday at retail.

Through Friday, people will be able to get $50 off Beats urBeats earbuds, which are normally $99.95. Until the end of Sunday, the company is slicing $75 off Beats' Solo3 Wireless headphones, which usually retail for $299.95.
