Apple Will Reportedly Launch 5-inch iPhone 7s With Vertical Dual Camera Setup During 2017

Besides the 5-inch display size (which will completely supplant the 4.7-inch model), the iPhone 7s is also expected to feature a rear dual-camera setup similar to that of today’s iPhone 7 Plus. But whereas that phone has its dual cameras situated horizontally, the iPhone 7s will reportedly have its two main cameras aligned vertically.

Not much else is known about this alleged 5-inch iPhone 7s at the moment, but we would hope that Apple would leave the 750p display behind and at least upgrade the resolution to 1080p. Flagship Android smartphones in the 5-inch class have 1080p or 1440p displays, and it’d be a bit unsettling to see Apple miss the boat again with such a relatively low-resolution display at the prices it charges.

Aesthetically, the iPhone 7s and its larger 7s Plus sibling will look quite similar to the iPhone 7 (which was a further refinement of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s that came before it).

Although the prospects of a 5-inch iPhone 7s are perhaps intriguing to some, most people are awaiting the iPhone 8, which is supposed to make a much larger break from tradition. The iPhone 8 is expected to include a curved OLED display, through-the-glass Touch ID, and of course the yearly advances in SoC process technology and performance. The iPhone 8 is also expected to completely remove the venerable Home button.
