Samsung ends Android 7.0 beta program, aims for official rollout to Galaxy S7 in January

A few days ago, Samsung released a new Android 7.0 preview, the fifth since launching its Galaxy Beta Program in November. All five preview releases have been limited to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and Samsung has said nothing about making the betas available to other devices.

But today, Samsung has notified those on the beta program that its testing period is drawing to a close. In fact, the company says that it will end at midnight today, December 30, emphasizing that "there will be no new Beta version release".

It's been over four months since Google released Android 7.0, and some manufacturers - including Sony, LG and HTC, among others - began upgrading their devices weeks ago. But the wait for Samsung's Nougat update to arrive for its two flagships should end in the next few weeks. Samsung said today: "We would do our best to distribute the official version in January as soon as possible."

Samsung has also been testing Android 7.0 internally on various other devices in its range - including the Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 edge and Tab S2 - but it hasn't yet announced details of when it plans to upgrade those devices to Nougat.
