Dell announces the Canvas and XPS 27, a pair of Surface Studio competitors

Today is the first day of CES 2017, and Dell has some interesting new Surface Studio competitors. The Canvas can be plugged into your existing Windows 10 machine, and the XPS 27 is an all-in-one.

Microsoft's Surface Studio was first unveiled back in October, and it's an all-in-one with an adjustable monitor that's built for creatives. Neither of Dell's announcements today could be called clones though, as they both offer a twist.

The XPS 27 offers a 4K display, and there's even a 'Precision' model that includes an Intel Xeon processor; however, the headlining feature is the audio quality. Dell says that it's 50% louder than any of its competitors.

In fact, a band called Glitch Mob showed it off, and it will be using it in its shows beginning in a few months, as it was previously using a Dell laptop.

Probably more interesting is the Canvas. Sadly, it's not quite the "Surface Studio but just the monitor" that people have been demanding. Instead, this is something entirely new. It's still a competitor to the Studio in that it's built for creative types that want to draw, but it's not adjustable.

Instead, it's made to have two separate displays. There's your regular display, and then the Canvas sits in a flat, or nearly flat position.

The Canvas offers a 27-inch QHD display, Wacom pen support, and the company says it even has its own version of the Surface Dial, called Totems. In fact, the Canvas comes with two different kinds of Totems.

The Dell Canvas should launch at the same time as the Windows 10 Creators Update, which should be in April for $1,799. For the XPS 27, it's available now starting at $1,499, but the Precision model is coming in April starting at $1,599.
