LenzO underwater housing for iPhone 7 is rated for 100 meters

As far as I know, yes. But their 1 inches have miserabel macro modes as far as I remember. So I got a housing for the LX100, which works quite well. But I really would like to eschew a housing altogether with a tough camera without doors (hence wifi file transfer, huge internal storage and wireless charging).

i didnt know that .... so basically a diving watch or any watch claiming depth rating is 30m.... about 90 feet , generally isnt safe to take to take a shower or wash your hands with ..... holy crap i had no idea

i still maintain that 95 percent of casual divers rarely descend below 20 maybe 30 feet

if a tech dive brought you to about 180 feet you must have had specialized equipment, i would guess that 99.9% of scuba certified diver would descend that far , id further guess that 97% of casual divers rarely go below 16 m

30m -> washing your hands should be perfectly fine btw.
Shower - may or may not cause issues .

it's a bit like the IP67 ratings on smartphones... it says submerged to 1m for 30m...
but chances are you put it under the sink, it'll still get busted - if the water hits the gasket at enough pressure.... or take it swimming - without going under and again chances are it will be damaged (it's one of the reasons why none of the phone manufactures offering an IP67 (or IP68 or IPX7...) protected phone will cover water damage under warranty.
it generally says, using the phone in heavy rain won't do it any harm, and plunging it in the sink or toilet - briefly, should be no big deal... but again - it's not guaranteed unless gently submerged in still water.

I did a lot of wreck diving and am IANTD / IANTD TriMix cert.

however the depth up to 60m - it has been a tad of a debate how "safe" (or outright dangerous according to some) I've done a good number of - carefully planned - decompression dives between 45 and 55m with standard compr. air.
generally speaking 66m is considered to be where it gets toxic... albeit there a few who claim to have gone much deeper on normal compressed air and survived... to my knowledge there are no records of success (verified) below 100m.... and 100m is usually what most would consider a "safe" limit for technical diving on trimix or other special gas mixtures and equipment...

most basic recreational scuba dives though are within the 5-20m range... and very few venture into complex decompression dives... or deep diving.

but still, going for a 20m dive I'd not take a case rated for 30m for my camera... because chances are pretty high for it to fail.

this is a bit like russian roulette with tech stuff.
last year I've spilled a glass of Water over my Laptop...
switched it off... let it drip out inverted... opened up (macbook pro...) and disconnected the battery asap... waited for four days... re-assembled and all has been working well ever since (over a year ago).
Recently my GF spilled a glass of water over her (sleep mode) macbook air... same procedure: computer was as dead as a dodo.

Taking a 30m rated camera down to 30m - well it can work. but honestly, there's zero guarantee it will do so repeatedly.

I hope that something rated to 30m is designed to 60m.

well ididnt mean snorkeling which is a surface activity ..... i am scuba certified
and have done some lake diving in nys and the carribean, from my experence
most casual dives are to about 30 feet of less and reef diving for instance is done at similar depths or even less as soom as ou are at depths of 7\8 to15 meters you need decompress which isnt an issue at 4.5 meters to 5 .5 for short dives with time spent at 3 meter.... i have limited experence

Well, no it isn't. if it would be, it would be rated for 60m.
No one designs a watch, rates it for 50m when they could without any modification to the components rate it 100m.

MAYBE the 50m watch will do 200m... but again, not built for it, not tested for it, not labeled for it... so why would you expect it...
it's a bit like buying a car with an advertised top speed of 130mph and hoping that it might do 160mph on a good day.

15-20 feet? I consider myself a casual scuba diver with about 150 dives under my belt, and I would say that only 10 of those dives were shallower than 20 feet. The vast majority of my dives have been between 30-60 feet.

Perhaps...but I can say that of my first 50 dives, less than a handful were shallower than 20 feet. My open water certification dives were all deeper than 20 feet.

So basically, if a 50m certified device can die at 30m if you swim without any malfunction, what's the point ? This certification should include human movement and average stream...

My 50m resistant watch take shower with me everytime but this could be a problem ? That's crazy.

Why is this crazy?
Firstly a certification that would encompass all (or at least most) factors of usage scenarios would be obscenely difficult and also expensive to do and develop.
Also Why... there are lists out there math PRESSURE Ratings to actual USAGE.
So all it takes is to educate yourself to understand WHAT those tests and certs actually mean.
Swimming is different form simply submerging... .etc.
Sorry, it's not complicated, it's not a scam, it's not difficult ... just read up on it, and in less than 10 minutes you should perfectly understand what those depth/pressure ratings mean and what all the IP57, IP58, IP67, IP68, IPX7 ratings mean..

you know, just because your car's dash speedo has (maybe) has a 160mph number on it, it doesn't mean your car will even approach 160mph...
Again, I do agree, I'd prefer a pressure rating vs the "waterproof" label ... but it's semantics.
if you're into diving, you learn about those things - if you're not, be reassured, your 50m watch will do most everything you throw at it in day-to-day moments.

and last but not least, most watches come with a manual... it usually says what's ok to do and what not.

Common, nobody read the manual of a dumb watch...

My car's dash speedo, which is probably the same in others models with a more powerful engine, displays a (nearly) accurate standardized speed not depending on external conditions (pressure, wind, slope...) at least.

RTFM works for everything... ignorance has never furthered knowledge.

Yesterday I bought a new coffee mug. Should I read the instructions written on the box or just use it as all my previous mugs ?

If someone rated a camera to 30m underwater, sure he use a safety factor of at least 2. You don't use an elevator rated for 5 people and think that adding a child the elevator will fall down!!

Why is this so difficult to understand? Why.
First specs for an elevator are "survival" related... different cost, different control, different purpose... different standards and norms and stuff.
then elevators are actually WEIGHT rated (with a people approx.) so if it says three people ... and one is a 160kg the other's 120... and the third (barely able to be squeezed in is 90...)... that would essentially let the elevator "fail" (actually modern elevators have a safety overload switch off... but again, apples and oranges...)... that's why the elevator is actually rated at say, 270kg... and not 500.
(yes modern ones, refuse to move if it's above a spec weight).

Pressure ratings are just that: PRESSURE.
And the reason why a 30m rating doesn't NEED to actually mean it's usable on a dive at 25 is because of movement, currents, operation (pushing buttons, etc), the localised pressure on a seal can WELL EXCEED the 4 bar (58.4 psi) found at 30m.....

... so whilst the case is tested to be ok at 4 bar... it's is allowed to "fail" at say. 4,5 bar. not at 6 or 7 ... as then it would be rated for 6 or 7 bar.
however, again, 4 bar in a TESTING environment .

And about the manual: if I buy a 400$ case to protect 1000$ (or more) of camera equipment... or a 3000$ diver's watch , yes I read the manual.
(or better inform myself before the purchase what I actually need for what I have planned to do)

To give you an idea of pressure: Houshold Water lines, can easily range between 40 and 80psi... yes. so in theory that would approximate the pressure found on depths from 18 to about 45 meters...
