Operating system stability is obviously an important aspect to consider when choosing which platform to use. Clearly an OS that isn’t stable isn’t very useful even if it were packed with the latest features and cutting edge technology, and unfortunately this is something that Apple seems to be lacking according to a recent study.
According to the latest Blancco’s State of Mobile Device Performance and Health report (via Cult of Mac), they have found that Apple’s iPhones seem to be increasing in their failure rates, while the opposite seems to be true of Google’s Android platform. According to the study, Apple’s failure rates in Q4 2016 was found to be at 62%, versus the same quarter the previous year where it was at a very acceptable and somewhat impressive 15%.
It turns out that this is in part contributed by the likes of apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, which are the three most used social media apps that also happen to be some of the most unreliable apps around and faced frequent crashes. Blancco is basing this data collected from millions of iOS devices that underwent diagnostics testing.
As for Android, Google appears to be improving on the platform as it was found that it went from 85% in Q4 2015, to 44% in Q1 2016, and 35% in Q2 2016. Of course your mileage may vary but if you are thinking of switching platforms, these numbers might be of interest to you.
