Microsoft to shut down Translator app for older Windows and Windows Phone devices next month

Microsoft has revealed that it is killing off its Translator app on some older Windows and Windows Phone devices in the next few weeks.

From March 22, owners of Windows Phone 7.5 (referred to in the end-of-life documentation by its internal version number 7.1), Windows Phone 8, and Windows 8 devices will no longer be able to download the app from their respective app stores. Additionally, the app will stop working completely for all of those operating systems on April 30.

While users of Microsoft Translator on Windows 10 PCs and phones are unaffected by these latest changes, those who use the app on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 will have to update it with "new versions releasing shortly" before April 30, in order for it to continue operating.

Microsoft Translator is available from the Windows Store.
