Even though they’re losing ground in the consumer market, Windows phones remain a worthy option for enterprises and authorities across the world looking for a cost-effective solution to increase productivity within certain departments.

This is the case of the state of Saarland in Germany, as the local police department decided to make the switch to the HP Elite X3 as it can be used by officers not only for on-the-go activities and reporting, but also at the desk with Continuum.

We’ve already heard that the German police are among the biggest supporters of Windows phones, and a new report from ITWire points to a research that truly showed the advantages of using these devices within a whole department.

Specifically, Microsoft and HP set up a pilot program with the Saarland Police back in 2016 in order to determine how Windows phones, in this case the Elite X3, can boost productivity and reduce costs in the short term.

After rolling out devices to approximately 30 percent of the Mobile Police Units, the companies discovered Windows phones could not only reduce the time needed to report each incident but also substantially lower the number of errors included in these reports.

The German Minister of Interior was very pleased with this trial and even considered a statewide deployment of Windows phones, which would bring the HP Elite X3 in the hands of no less than 1,600 police officers.

According to estimates, such a plan could help save no less than 20 million euros over the next three years, as the HP Elite X3 reduces time for certain activities, but can also replace other devices, such as laptops, thanks to Continuum support.

It goes without saying that although this can only be good news for Microsoft and Windows phone fans, this doesn’t mean that the platform is saved, as the Redmond-based software giant needs many more agreements like this to make its mobile OS more widely adopted.
