Smartphone Sales About to Collapse, Apple is to Blame

Watching Apple since 1999. I don't say what they should do. I say what they might do. They sometimes do.

How is Apple to blame for the glut of smartphones? Apple has only a tiny fraction of smartphone market share percentage. The fault lies with Alphabet/Google and trying to flood the market with cheap Android smartphones. Alphabet tried to turn the smartphone market into a personal monopoly by giving Android away to any company who wanted to use it. Selling $50 to $100 smartphones is basically trying to undercut prices of any company wanting to sell premium smartphones. Who needs cheap devices that are nearly disposable and will likely end up as instant landfill?

I don’t know about Apple starving the smartphone market because it seems the Galaxy S8 is supposedly doing quite well in terms of pre-order sales. Certainly better than the S7 did. It doesn’t appear as though Galaxy S8 buyers are holding back for the next iPhone. The next iPhone is said to be quite expensive so all those consumers will likely be buying much less expensive smartphones which are quite abundant. Blaming Apple for sucking the life out of the smartphone market makes no sense at all. Most consumers on the planet can’t even afford iPhones. 230 million iPhone units is nothing compared to all the billions of adult and teen consumers on the planet. Most of the smartphone business belongs to Android smartphone manufacturers with a nearly 90% market share percentage.
