AMD Radeon RX Vega Core, Eclipse And Nova Allegedly Launch June 5th Priced From $400
Recent rumors have all pointed to AMD launching its much anticipated Vega graphics card lineup at Computex. The time frame is logical—AMD has a press event scheduled on the morning of the first day of Computex (May 31), and the company has previously confirmed plans to launch Vega sometime in the second quarter. As that day comes closer into view, newly leaked information suggests AMD will unveil three different Vega SKUs starting at $400.
The first of those SKUs is called Radeon RX Vega Core. Assuming the supposed insiders providing all of this information truly know what they're talking about, the Radeon RX Vega Core will launch at $399, which in our experience means $399.99 (hence why we're rounding up to $400).
There are no details available about the Core card's specs or performance. However, it is interesting to note that AMD's price point is roughly on par with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1070. There are several GeForce GTX 1070 cards priced below $400, including miniature sized variants from Zotac and Gigabyte that we've seen on sale for as low as $330, but several others are priced the same and/or higher.
Moving up the totem pole, AMD's middle SKU is the Radeon RX Vega Eclipse. These cards will retail for $500, putting Eclipse models squarely in competition with the crop of GeForce GTX 1080 cards in the wild. This is where things start to get really interesting. The GeForce GTX 1080 has more CUDA cores and memory bandwidth than the GeForce GTX 1070, but with a bit of overclocking, a 1070 can perform fairly close to a 1080. It remains to be seen how overclockable AMD's Radeon RX Vega Core and Eclipse cards end up being.
For enthusiasts who want the best version of Vega, that is going to be the Radeon RX Vega Nova. Pricing for this one will start at $600, which is $100 less than the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Assuming it is competitive with that card, it will be interesting to see if NVIDIA issues a price cut
