Earlier this year you might recall a story about a woman who was traveling on a flight from Beijing, China to Melbourne, Australia and where her Beats branded headphones exploded, leaving her face, hands, and hair burnt. She has since sought for reimbursement over the damaged property.

However it seems that Apple isn’t particularly interested in reimbursing her, claiming that the explosion was due to the use of a third-party battery. In a statement issued by Apple, “Our investigation indicated the issue was caused by a third-party battery.” However the woman is arguing against Apple’s statement, saying that there was no indication as to what kind of battery she should use.

Her statement reads, “The headphones don’t work without batteries, yet nowhere on the headphones – or their packaging – did it specify which brand of batteries should be used.” According to her, she bought the headphones at a duty-free in 2014 and the AAA batteries used to power them back in Australia.

She has also since expressed her extreme disappointment with Apple’s decision. That being said, The Verge points to how Apple does not make Beats headphones that use AAA batteries at the moment, meaning that the pair she was using was probably an older model.
