ASUS Reportedly Building Radeon RX Vega 64 X2 Dual GPU Beast
In just a little over a week from now, AMD's Radeon RX Vega lineup for consumers will be launch to retail. Sometime after, ASUS will bring to market custom cooled solutions under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) branding. However, the most interesting card that might come from ASUS is a dual-GPU variant of the Radeon RX Vega 64.

Unlike the other cards that ASUS announced last week, the dual-GPU Vega model has not been officially tipped. That said, rumor has it the card is already in development and will hit store shelves sometime before the end of the year. If true, it will be interesting to see what the power requirements will be—the air-cooled Radeon RX Vega 64 carries a 295W TDP and the liquid-cooled model bumps that up to 350W.
Apparently AMD has told its hardware partners that it will not put any restrictions on custom designed Radeon RX Vega cards. As the story goes, ASUS has taken that freedom to heart. Its dual-GPU beast will feature two full Vega 10 XT GPUs. That will translate into over 50 teraflops of FP16 compute performance and 25 teraflops of FP32 compute performance.
It is a safe bet that this card will be liquid cooled. The card will also be part of a limited run with a premium price tag attached. It's said that ASUS is wanting to make a statement of what it is capable designing, as opposed to truly expecting to sell a large quantity of these cards. In that regard, it is sort of like the ARES II. While now a dated card, the ARES II made a splash as the fastest card around with two HD 7970 GPUs underneath the hood, and was also limited in production.
The other thing to keep an eye on here is how well a dual-GPU Vega card will be at mining Ethereum. Another rumor floating around is that the Radeon RX Vega 64 might be the ultimate mining card with a hash rate of 70-100 million hashes per second (MH/s), or more. To put that into perspective, today's best mining cards have hash rates ranging from 20 MH/s to 30 MH/s.
