This fall, students at more than 30 community colleges around the country will have the opportunity to learn how to build apps using Apple's Swift programming language.

The news comes after Apple in May launched the free app development curriculum designed for high school and community college students. Now, a number of additional colleges around the country—including Austin Community College District—have agreed to offer the App Development With Swift course during the 2017-2018 school year.

The full-year curriculum was designed by Apple engineers and educators to teach students how to design apps using Swift. A number of popular apps like Airbnb, Kayak, TripAdvisor, Venmo, and Yelp were created with Swift.

"The course takes students with no programming experience and enables them to build fully-functional apps of their own design," Apple wrote in its announcement.

Apple previously announced six community college systems across the US that would be among the first to offer the curriculum this fall, including Alabama Community College System, Columbus State Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Houston Community College, Mesa Community College and San Mateo Community College District. Now, the company said that Northeast Mississippi Community College, Northwest Kansas Technical College, and additional campuses in the Alabama Community College System will be offering it as well.

App developers earned $5 billion through Apple's App Store last year, a 40 percent increase over 2015, Apple said. To date, the iPhone maker has paid out some $16 billion to US developers since the App Store launched.
