Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is known around the world for his immense professional achievements, but not many know about his personal space. In the latest interview with CNN, Nadella opened up about himself, his family and especially his 21-year old son Zain, who was born with severe Cerebral Palsy. Zain was born weighing just three pounds and suffered asphyxiation, as a result of which, he is visually impaired and has limited communication abilities. Nadella says that ’empathy is a massive part’ of who he is today, and that too because of his son Zain. “In the initial years, I struggled but later I realised that it was because things did not turn out, the way I wanted, thus, I should see the best that I can do for him,” he told CNN. He also added that taking care of his son made him a better colleague, a better leader and a better innovator as well.

In the interview given to CNN, Nadella also recalled the lesson taught to him by his mother. He said, “You can’t perform perfectly in the present if you remain impatient about your future prospects.” Satya Nadella further said that one must try and become empathetic as it helps in all walks of life. Talking about automation, he says that the loss of jobs due to automation is a serious issue and we will have to figure out ways for the co-existence of technology and human workforce.

Satya Nadella, an Indian American business executive succeeded Steve Ballmer in 2014 as the CEO of Microsoft. Microsoft’s stock has risen more than 60 per cent since he took over, and also achieved an all-time high.
