Some MacBooks are so slight that you run the risk of throwing them out with the trash. They're designed to travel. But just because Apple laptops are thin, light, and covered in goes-with-everything aluminum doesn't mean they're impervious to damage.

How you protect your MacBook Air or Pro depends on where you're taking it. A case, sleeve, or shell can offer plenty of protection if you're constantly jamming your computer into overhead bins on airplanes, but it's also a convenient way to tote your laptop back and forth from writing sessions at the coffee shop.

Whichever type of case you choose, you probably want it to show off your personal style and personality. There's also the price to consider, as the range of MacBook cases and sleeves goes from less than the taxes you paid on the laptop to more than its total cost, once you hit the designer stratosphere.

We've put together some of our top choices in MacBook Air and Pro cases and sleeves, many of which will fit the latest M3-powered MacBooks, as well as older ones. There are no-nonsense slim cases, distinguished-looking leather pouches, and rugged carry-alls among them. So browse through the gallery, and if you come across any great finds of your own in your shopping travels, tell us about them in the comments below.

About Chandra Steele

Senior Features Writer

My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can connect it to technology (I can). I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. You might have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on your commute home on the radio or a podcast. Or maybe you’ve just seen my Bernie meme

I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.
