Apple appears to have dropped its “Free App of the Week” promotion.

Users have been unable to find the giveaway since the introduced of the all-new App Store in iOS 11. Apple now has “App of the Day” and “Game of the Day” highlights, but unless its picks were already free, you have to pay for them.

Apple has been giving away a free iOS app or game every week for years. It was promoted on the front page of the App Store, and you could download it on any iPhone or iPad without coughing up a penny. Once it was in your library, you could re-download it at any time.

With iOS 11, the App Store received a massive overhaul. It has a new look and new features that makes discovering great new apps and games even easier. But it seems there is no place for that “Free App of the Week” promotion.

“After scavenging the App Store, and ruminating on message boards, users have come to the conclusion that the Free App of the Week is as dead as the headphone jack,” notes Gadget HacksIt’s been almost three weeks since iOS 11 made its debut, and the promo is yet to return.

Apple could bring it back later; the company certainly hasn’t ruled it out. It has removed other features in iOS 11 — like using a 3D Touch gesture to access recent apps — that it promises are coming back. But, for now, its generous app giveaways are gone.
