Why 'animoji karaoke' is the best thing about iPhone X

Brett Molina

The most discussed feature of Apple's iPhone X since its launch last Friday isn't the OLED screen or Face ID. It's the ability to lip sync tunes with animated emojis.

The iPhone X features 12 animoji, animated emojis mirroring your expressions and even moving its mouth when you speak. There are 12 available, including a cat, panda, and the classic poop emoji, of course.

Users have already found clever ways to share animojis, including "animoji karaoke," where an iPhone will lip sync as an animoji to a popular song.

The trend was started by Fast Company tech editor Harry McCracken, and has since taken off on social media.

Animojis carry a 10-second limit on how long you can record, so many iPhone X owners are using the screen recording feature introduced in iOS 11 to record longer sessions. It also appears many of the videos require extra editing after recording. McCracken said for some of the animoji duets, he edited them on iMovie for Mac.

Now you know how to get an animated unicorn to sing Adele.
