Microsoft renews NFL deal

The NFL has signed a one-season extension to its partnership with US tech company Microsoft.

The new agreement will cover the 2018-19 NFL season, according to the Associated Press news agency.

As part of the deal, NFL referees will continue to use Microsoft’s Surface tablets for video review decisions. The tablets will also be used by coaches and players during matches.

"We're excited to help the NFL change the game with Surface devices being used by players and coaches on the sidelines to make more informed decisions, referees using Surface for instant replay to enhance the speed of the game, and teams using Microsoft products in their business and football operations," Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice-president at Microsoft, said. "We look forward to continuing the partnership next season."

Microsoft first partnered with the NFL in 2013 in a deal worth a reported $400m (€337.4m) over five years.
