OnePlus 5T beats Apple iPhone X and Google Pixel 2 in one department

The OnePlus 5T has got the Apple iPhone X, Google Pixel 2 and Samsung Galaxy S8 beat in one key department, according to one report.

The OnePlus 5T is the latest slick Android device from the Chinese smartphone start-up, releasing last month with a glorious screen.

The device, which is an upgrade from the OnePlus 5 that was launched in June, boasts a six inch AMOLED screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The screen on the OnePlus 5T looks like OnePlus’s take on Samsung’s Infinity Display which debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ earlier this year.

Thinner bezels at the top and bottom of the device make way for the bigger screen, while the OnePlus 5T also features an improved camera.

But it’s in one other department where the OnePlus 5T has beaten the competition in a recent test.

Product review site Tom's Guide tested a group of 10 flagship smartphones to see which one is the fastest to charge.

The phones tested include the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Google Pixel 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Samsung Galaxy S8, LG V30 and OnePlus 5T.

And in their battery charging tests the OnePlus 5T came out top.

Tom’s Guide tested what percentage battery the phones were able to reach from zero per cent charge at 30 minutes and 60 minutes.

They found the OnePlus 5T reached the most battery charge out of the devices tested at the half hour and hour markers.

After 30 minutes of charging, the OnePlus 5T had reached 59 per cent charge and by an hour had hit 93 per cent charge.

The second placed LG V30 had hit 53 per cent charge after 30 minutes and 86 per cent charge after 60 minutes.

The third placed Apple iPhone X in comparison had hit 50 per cent charge after 30 minutes and 81 per cent charge after an hour.

Emily Ratajkowski explains how OnePlus ‘Dash Charge’ works

All of the iPhones were tested with an optional 29-watt adapter and USB-C to Lightning cable, needed for fast charging with iPhones.

Most premium Android smartphones offer some form of quick charging thanks to their USB-C adapters.

Speaking about their findings, Tom’s Guide said: “The OnePlus 5T led the pack, reaching an impressive 59 per cent in 30 minutes.

“The advantage for the OnePlus? Unlike most other Android phones, it doesn't use Qualcomm's QuickCharge technology.

“Instead, it employs the proprietary Dash Charge, which delivers higher amperage than QuickCharge and uses dedicated circuitry in the charger itself for heat management.”

They added: “The next-best phone in the first round of our testing was the LG V30, at 53 per cent.

“The iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were all close behind, at 50 per cent, 49 per cent and 47 per cent, respectively, when we used the fast-charging gear Apple sells separately.”

In our review of the OnePlus 5T, Express.co.uk lauded it as “not just the best OnePlus smartphone, but one of the best of 2017”.

We said: “OnePlus 5T stands toe-to-toe with the latest flagship smartphones in almost every conceivable way, except one – it’s not water resistant.

“That can almost be forgiven, given that the OnePlus 5T is £240 cheaper than its Samsung counterpart.

“But those who accidentally spill a glass of water over their brand-new OnePlus will undoubtedly still be gutted about its absence.

“OnePlus 5T is easily the best smartphone the company has ever built. But more than that, it’s one of the best smartphones of the year.”
