Microsoft Spectre patch was released recently and while we thought that this would reduce security concerns it seems that some people we unable to boot their systems after applying the Microsoft Spectre patch. AMD has released an official statement regarding the issue and you can check it out here.
While this has caused some issues with users and has bricked some PCs, Microsoft has now stopped rolling out the update in order to ensure that other PCs are not harmed in the process. AMD knows about the issue and is working with Microsoft in order to release an update that will not brick the PCs in question.
The following is the official statement by AMD:
AMD is aware of an issue with some older generation processors following installation of a Microsoft security update that was published over the weekend. AMD and Microsoft have been working on an update to resolve the issue and expect it to begin rolling out again for these impacted shortly.
In other news concerning the Spectre patch and Meltdown bug, it seems that Intel CEO know about these flaws and that is why he sold Intel shares well in time. Furthermore, Intel has refused to replace any CPUs that may be affected and there have been multiple cases filed against the company in order to protect the rights of the general consumer.
While we have established that these bugs have little to no impact on gaming, Nvidia CEO talked about the Nvidia graphics cards not being affected by these bugs and the following is what he had to say:
“Our GPUs are immune, they’re not affected by these security issues. What we did is we released driver updates to patch the CPU security vulnerability. We are patching the CPU vulnerability the same way that Amazon, the same way that SAP, the same way that Microsoft, etc are patching, because we have software as well.”
