Cocktail 11.3 (High Sierra Edition) has been released
We would like to inform you that Cocktail 11.3 (High Sierra Edition) for users running macOS High Sierra 10.13 has been released. Here are the release notes for this version:
  • Added ability to thin or delete local Time Machine snapshots (System - Time Machine). If you are using Time Machine with an external disk, Time Machine will keep a copy of the latest backups. This is done to ensure that all changes to files and documents will be backed up even when you're not connected to your Time Machine disk, however it can take up significant amounts of disk space. Cocktail can thin (purge) or completely delete local backups (called snapshots) and free up the space used by Time Machine. Warning: By deleting local Time Machine snapshots you reduce the effectiveness of your backups and you risk losing data.
  • Addresses an issue in which Cocktail may fail to purge inactive memory
  • Improvements on the "Perform essential system maintenance" procedure
  • Improvements on the "Clear Spotlight caches" procedure
  • Improvements on the "Clear Mail caches" procedure
  • Improvements on the "Clear Siri caches" procedure
  • Updated Automator actions
  • Updated Help files
Please note that Cocktail (High Sierra Edition) requires macOS High Sierra 10.13 to run. If you are running macOS Sierra 10.12, please continue to use Cocktail (Sierra Edition).

Cocktail (Sierra Edition) for macOS 10.12, Cocktail (El Capitan Edition) for OS X 10.11, Cocktail (Yosemite Edition) for OS X 10.10 and Cocktail (Mavericks Edition) for OS X 10.9 are available for download from our website.

Tips & Tricks
The Finder's Go > "Go to Folder..." (Shift-Command-G) menu item is a nifty way to access your file system.

First of all, you can use it to see hidden folders, so if you need to view /private/var, you don't have to open a Terminal window to do so.

Secondly, the "Go to Folder" window is an excellent place to paste a path rather than clicking around to get to a deeply nested folder. I use this pretty often when I'm troubleshooting. After all, if Apple's support documentation tells you to open ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData to access a file within it, it's very quick to just copy that path and paste it into the window.

To make typing stuff in even faster, the "Go to Folder" window allows tab completion (just as Terminal does), and it tries to autofill as you type, as well. So if you type in ~/Doc and then wait for a moment, your Mac will attempt to figure out the destination and fill it in for you.

Important to note is that you aren't just limited to using "Go to Folder" within the Finder itself. The same keyboard shortcut can be used to invoke it within Open/Save dialogs, too.
