Xiaomi has ripped off the iPhone X’s control gestures for its upcoming Mi Mix 2S smartphone. A leaked video reveals users will control the device with swipes after Xiaomi did away with its Home button.
Xiaomi, one of the fastest-growing smartphone makers in China, has a history of copying Apple’s designs. Its new Mi Mix 2S, which is expected to become the world’s first handset to carry Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 processor, is heavily inspired by iPhone X.
Mi Mix 2S rips off iPhone X control gestures
The device sports an edge-to-edge display with a “notch” that holds its front-facing camera. It also has two rear-facing cameras, with an LED flash that sits right between them. It is made mostly out of glass with a metal frame that holds everything together.
There are some big differences, however. The rear-facing cameras sit in the center of the phone, rather in the corner. The Mi Mix 2S’ notch is also significantly smaller than iPhone X’s, and it sits in the top right corner of the screen, as opposed to in the center.
The Mi Mix 2S is missing any kind of Home button like iPhone X, so Xiaomi has adopted the same gesture controls. The leaked video below demonstrates how a swipe from the bottom of the screen, followed by a short pause, can invoke the app switcher.
It seems the Mi Mix 2S isn’t quite as response as iPhone X with those swipe gestures. It doesn’t have a gesture indicator at the bottom of its display, either. However, this is a short video, so it would be unfair to form an opinion on it just yet.
Mi Mix 2S won’t lose fingerprint scanning
The Mi Mix 2S will still offer fingerprint scanning using a sensor embedded into its display, reports claim. Some rumors suggested this is the route Apple was hoping to take with iPhone X, but it was forced to rely on Face ID entirely because other technology wasn’t ready in time.

Although it’s not a complete clone, it seems the Mi Mix 2S could become the closest thing to an iPhone X that runs Android.
