Nike+ Run Club has picked up a new Challenges feature that aims to keep you motivated.

Much like the Activity app on Apple Watch, Challenges gives you weekly and monthly goals and rewards you with achievements when you reach them. You can also see how you stack up against the global community of Run Club users.

What makes Apple Watch’s Activity app so spectacular is how it encourages even the laziest couch potatoes to get active. There’s something addictive about filling its rings and earning new achievements that motivates you to keep going.

Now Nike is taking a similar approach with its Run Club app for iPhone. A new Challenges feature pushes you to meet weekly and monthly targets in exchange for achievements.

“Stay motivated and push yourself to run 15K (9 Miles) per week or 50K (31 Miles) per month and see how you stack up against the global community of Nike runners,” reads the release notes for the version 5.13 update.

“Exciting new Achievements can be earned with each Challenge. Also keep a look out for occasional special Nike Challenges! Get moving and join one today!”

The update also brings “general bug fixes and enhancements” for iPhone and Apple Watch.

Nike+ Run Club is free

Nike has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Apple. It started with the Nike+iPod Sports Kit in 2006, which offered a running tracker you could attach to your sneakers that synced data to your iPod nano.

Apple now offers an Apple Watch Nike+, which boasts exclusive watch faces and Siri commands for deeper integrated with the Nike+ Run Club app. But you don’t need a special Apple Watch; the Run Club app is free to download on iPhone.
