Microsoft publishes a fresh update for Anniversary Update

Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and the focus is on bug fixes and operating system refinements.

Cumulative update KB4077525, whose changelog you can read in full in the box after the jump, comes with a long list of tweaks, many of which are supposed to improve the performance of the OS and address issues that users reported in the existing builds.

The first thing you should notice after installing this cumulative update is that it bumps OS version to 14393.2097, so when typing winver in the Start menu, this is the build number you should see.

What’s new in this cumulative update?

While the changelog is huge, of particular note is a fix for a bug causing error 0x06d9 when a user attempts an OS upgrade or an LCU update. Microsoft says the system automatically reverts to a previous version of the upgrade or update, but after installing cumulative update KB4077525, everything should work correctly.

Needless to say, with Windows 10 Redstone 4 just around the corner, such fixes are critical, especially because Microsoft needs all users to be able to upgrade to the new version as smoothly as possible. Surprisingly, however, this kind of fixes haven’t been implemented in cumulative updates for other versions of Windows 10, so there’s a chance this was an issue specific to Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Another tweak improves ReFS performance by removing idle containers from its hash table, while the same cumulative update addresses a problem encountered when booting with Unified Write Filter and a connected USB hub hits a stop error E1.

At the time of writing this article, there is no report of failed installs, and users who experienced such problems know how important it is to be able to correctly deploy cumulative updates.
