Dell refreshes its Alienware and Inspiron gaming lineups with 8th-gen processors

With Intel's announcement earlier today of new H-series processors, Dell is refreshing its range of gaming laptops, including both those under its own and the Alienware brand. The news comes alongside of the announcement of a new XPS 15 laptop.

The new Alienware 15 and Alienware 17 include just about everything that a serious gamer will want in a laptop. Processor options include the new hexa-core Core i7-8750H and the unlocked Core i9-8950HK, while the smaller variant is also offered with the quad-core Core i5-8300HQ. Graphics are available in AMD and Nvidia flavors, with either an RX 570, or anywhere between a GeForce GTX 1060 and a GTX 1080.

The screen includes Nvidia G-Sync, and comes in 1080p, 1440p, or 4K, while the RGB keyboard includes 13 programmable zones in 20 different colors for a total of 80 quadrillion lighting combinations. You can get either one configured with up to 32GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM, and up to 1TB of internal storage. They also include Thunderbolt 3, meaning that you can connect up to two 4K monitors, or a single 5K monitor.

Formally known as Dell Inspiron Gaming, the G3, G5, and G7 are made for more of a casual gamer. For example, if you're sending a kid off to college with a gaming laptop that they also have to write papers on, you'll want to look at these.

All of them are offered with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, and they come with the new H-series processors. The G3, which comes in 15- and 17-inch flavors, only has quad-core options (Core i5-8300HQ and Core i7-8750HQ), while the 15-inch G5 and G7 also have hexa-core variants. The higher end tiers also have UHD options.

All of the Alienware and Dell laptops announced today will be available in limited configurations starting today. The Alienware 15 will start at $1,449.99 with G-Sync and $1,399.99 without it, and the 17 will be available for $1,599.99 and $1,549.99 with and without G-Sync, respectively. The Dell G7 15 will start at $849, the G5 15 will start at $799, and the G3 15 and 17 will start at $749 and $799, respectively. Full availability for all models of the Alienwares and the G7 15 will be on April 10, while full availability for the G3 and G5 will be on April 16.
