Apple Is Warning Its MacBook Pro Owners That a Component May Fail, Causing the Battery to Expand - Servicing Will Be Necessary

Owners of the MacBook Pro are advised to get their notebooks serviced as Apple today, has announced a new battery replacement program for the 2016 and 2017 model owners.

Apple’s 13-Inch MacBook Pro Without Touch Bar Will Require Servicing - Remaining Two Models Are Not Afflicted With Such a Problem

On Apple’s support page for the MacBook Pro, the company has highlighted the following details about the 13-inch notebook.

Apple has determined that, in a limited number of 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units, a component may fail causing the built-in battery to expand. This is not a safety issue and Apple will replace eligible batteries, free of charge. Affected units were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017 and eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

Since Apple has not mentioned that the 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar require servicing, it only means that the owners of the base model will need to go to their nearest Apple service outlet. For added convenience, Apple has also provided an easy way to find out if your notebook requires servicing.

You can punch in the serial number of your 13-inch MacBook Pro and if your notebook does require servicing, you can head to the nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider. Keep in mind that the service will take between 3-5 days and if there is another problem that is completely separate from the battery conundrum, it will need to be taken care of first and then come to the problem at hand.

Note: If your 13-inch MacBook Pro has any damage which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair.

This is certainly one way of providing immaculate service to your customers, though Apple should take care that such problems do not persist in the future.
