Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Leaves KGI, Could Change Focus From Apple-Only

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has over the years proven to be one of the most reliable sources for Apple industry predictions, has resigned from Taiwanese research firm KGI Securities. The move raises the possibility that Kuo may focus less on Apple, expanding his focus to include emerging industries.

China Times reports Kuo resigned from KGI on Friday, where he has been since early 2012. Kuo first began to deserve his reputation as a usually reliable source for Apple rumors and information while he was a senior analyst at DigiTimes. He moved to Concord Securities for a brief period in 2011, before making the move to KGI.

Kuo had sources throughout Apple’s Asian supply chain, from which he gathered information that allowed him to frequently make accurate predictions about upcoming Apple products.

While Kuo’s record is far from accurate, he did accurately predict the iPhone 7’s lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack, the device’s Jet Black color option, and improved water resistance. He also predicted a new iPhone with a 5.9-inch OLED display, glass back and more, which became the iPhone X.

He has also previously predicted such Apple product developments as the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, the iPhone SE, the 12-inch MacBook, and numerous other devices.

Kuo hasn’t announced his future plans, hopefully he will still continue to keep his ear to the ground in relation to Apple industry moves. We wish him luck!
