‘I get inspired by what India is doing,’ says Michael Dell at an award ceremony in Las Vegas

Dell Technologies hosts a yearly award ceremony in Las Vegas to facilitate their notable customers for their excellence across the stages of digital transformation. It is here, Michael Dell, Chairman & CEO of Dell Technologies complemented India on its effort to transform its country and society digitally. He stated that he feels inspired by the kind of initiative the Indian government has taken up to aid technological progress within the country.

While addressing the media at Dell Technologies world, 2018, Dell stated, in response to a question by IANS :

“IndiaStack, for example, is a world-leading concept and as a techie, I get very inspired by what India is doing. It is an amazing government-led effort.”

Dell was referring to a government-led initiative to create a single-window approach by a set of API’s that allows various players, including governments and private players to utilize a digital infrastructure which in turn aids in the objective of solving India’s problems through presence-less, paperless and cashless service delivery.

The State Bank of India, won the “Trail Blazer Award” for their cloud-based data storage and their recently opened innovation centre to look into the possibilities of integrating AI, ML, and blockchain. India’s largest public bank has been riddled with allegations of red-tapism and Kafkaesque attitude towards customers in the past but things are changing and they are changing fast. Even 5 years ago, the idea of State Bank of India winning an award for their forward-thinking approach towards technology and integrating it with the services offered would have unthinkable.

This award is a testament to what Dell stated. The government has set a precedent by becoming the torchbearer of technology-driven solutions for contemporary problems. The flagship of the Indian public banking reflects what the new Indian approach towards technology is and will be.

Dell also stated the importance of governments understanding the importance of technology and how it can be used as an enabler to aid government objectives.

“Governments should understand that the Internet, broadband, and fibre are really important in next generation of the society”.

This is not the first time that the incumbent Indian government’s technological policies have been praised by industry leaders. Previously institutions like IMF and World Bank have also praised Modi’s policy.
