Users owning such hardware say they are now being offered the update after previously being blocked from upgrading

Several users who have previously been blocked from upgrading to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update due to a known issue hitting Intel and Toshiba SSDs are now being offered the new OS version.

While it’s not yet confirmed whether Microsoft indeed resolved the bug, there are several posts online revealing that Windows 10 April 2018 Update is now available for download on devices with both Intel and Toshiba SSDs, despite the upgrade previously blocked due to compatibility reasons.

Microsoft confirmed earlier this month, shortly after the release of Windows 10 April 2018 Update, that some devices equipped with Intel SSDs might experience various issues after installing version 1803, therefore the company decided to block the upgrade until a fix was developed.

The bug impacted Intel SSD 600p Series and 6000p Series, and Microsoft said that stability and performance problems were very likely to be experienced.

“When attempting to upgrade to the Window 10 April 2018 Update, select devices with Intel SSD 600p Series or Intel SSD Pro 6000p Series may repeatedly enter a UEFI screen after restart or stop working,” Microsoft explained.

Update now available for impacted hardware

A few days later, the company acknowledged another bug, this time hitting devices with Toshiba SSDs, again promising a fix in the coming weeks. Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series solid state disk (SSD) drives were said to be impacted.

While a fix was more likely to land on Patch Tuesday, which takes place on June 12, we’re now seeing reports (here, here, and here) that the bug has already been resolved and Microsoft is now shipping the Windows 10 April 2018 Update to devices that were originally affected.

We’re still waiting for a confirmation from Microsoft that the bug has been repaired, and until then, it might be a good idea to avoid installing the April 2018 Update if you own the hardware mentioned above.
