    India important source for tech talent: Dell CFO Tom Sweet

    Dell Technologies, one of the world's largest privately held tech company, will also continue to invest in products and solution capabilities in India as well as expanding its sales capacity in the country.

    India is an important source of technical talent for Dell Technologies, said chief financial officer Tom Sweet.

    "India is a very important centre for us if you consider our global footprint, since we have a lot of operations and functions in India that support global activity." Sweet said at the company's flagship event Dell Technologies World in Las Vegas.

    "There is a big investment going into our business operations teams and our engineering team that reside in India. We're accessing this talent to do some of these global engineering jobs for us." said Sweet.

    He added their targets for India are mainly set around growth, in terms of revenues and profitability and they are exploring how do they bring a broader set of capabilities to the market.

    "The way our investment strategy works is, the country level leadership working with the regional leadership will ask for particular capabilities or resources. It could either be bringing a specific type of solutions to the market or involve involves human capital resources around local market capacities or specialist capacities." Sweet said.

    During the event, Dell Technologies showcased a slew of new storage and server products along with upgraded versions of its existing products. It also announced a partnership with Microsoft for a joint Internet of Things (IoT) solution that is expected to help customers simplify the deployment of their end-to-end IoT solutions.

    Ravi Pendekanti, senior vice president of product management and marketing for Dell EMC's Server and Infrastructure Systems, said that India has been among the top countries in terms of adoption of Dell products and they are now receiving a lot of interest from Indian companies on machine learning and deep learning capabilities of their products.

    Dell Technologies chief executive Michael Dell also praised the government-led technology initiative IndiaStack "As a techie, I get very inspired by what India is doing with IndiaStack" he said.

    Sweet added "Some of the work that they're doing around the payment systems and on the use of the phone and mobile devices as a primary device for compute has been quite innovative, you don't even see that in the United States"
