Hit Microsoft franchise Gears of War is making the leap to mobile next year in Gears Pop!

Microsoft has teamed up with Mediatonic and Funko to bring the popular shooter to Android and iOS with a big twist. And yes, that’s the same Funko that creates adorable pop culture collectibles.

Enjoy the first trailer right here.

Gears of War was created by Epic Games, the same studio behind the battle royale behemoth that is Fortnite, but the franchise is owned by Microsoft. That means you previously needed an Xbox or Windows PC to play Gears of War games.

This won’t be the case in 2019. One of the new installments in the Gears of War franchise is exclusively for mobile.

Gears Pop! is a cuter shooter

Microsoft didn’t tell us much about Gears Pop! during its E3 keynote this week, but it did provide us with a trailer. The 43-second video reveals a number of Gears characters, each carrying a gun, in a lovable Funko form.

Gears Pop! will almost certainly be a shooter of some kind, then. I’m personally hoping for a twin-stick shooter like Halo: Spartan Strike, another Microsoft game, or Minigore 2: Zombies. These games play well on mobile devices with virtual controls.

We will probably have to wait until next year to hear more from Microsoft. The company also confirmed Gears of War 5 for Xbox, but that won’t be available until until 2019, either.
