Microsoft is believed to be working on a dual-screen device that could see daylight later this year, but the company has remained completely tight-lipped on everything regarding this project until now.

However, more details are making the rounds these days, and after an internal email discussing the new device leaked earlier today, here’s what could be the very first official teaser.

Surface chief Panos Panay published on Twitter a photo of his caricature, thanking LG Display for the idea. The tweeted picture includes two different images connected to each other with hinges in a basic design that could be used for Microsoft’s dual-screen device as well.

The two displays could be connected with hinges that would allow for several form factors, like tablet and laptop, all depending on the orientation of the screen.

LCD panels

Panay mentioning LG Display could indicate that his company might be Microsoft’s supplier of displays for the Surface device. Codenamed Andromeda but referred to by many as Surface Phone, the new product is supposed to invent a new category that would then be expanded with the help of other OEMs.

Partnering with LG Display for Andromeda may be a sign that the device would use LCD panels and not OLED. LG Display is one of the largest LCD screen suppliers in the world and is only now building up capacity for OLED panels that would be used on Apple’s future iPhone models.

Andromeda should see daylight later this year, though according to information that reached the web lately, the product could be killed off at any given moment if Microsoft considers that it no longer makes sense. It could use an ARM processor to be powered by Windows 10 on ARM, though it’s believed that Microsoft hasn’t yet made a decision and both Intel and Qualcomm chips are on the table for now.
