NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1160 6GB Mobile GPU Reportedly To Arrive In Max-Q Design Laptops Later This Year
NVIDIA has yet to announce its next-generation GeForce lineup, or even offer any hints, other than being booked to discuss its next-gen GPUs at the Hot Chips conference in August. The company's hardware partners have been a bit more forthcoming, though, especially Lenovo, which will reportedly launch a Legion Y530 laptop with a GeForce GTX 1160 inside.
We will get to that in a moment, but first let's talk about the name. There has been plenty of speculation as to what the next round of GeForce products will be called, with the GeForce 11 series and GeForce 20 series the two leading candidates. Interestingly enough, it was also Lenovo that seemingly confirmed the former. During a recent on-camera interview with gaming publication Brainbean, a Lenovo representative causally mentioned that its Legion 730 desktop PCs would be outfitted with "Nvidia['s] 11 series up to an 1180 down the road."
It's reasonable to think that NVIDIA's OEM partners would be privy to its GPU plans, with a launch imminently close at this point. So, 'thank you' Lenovo for the heads up.
This brings us back to the Legion Y530. According to LaptopMedia, the Legion Y530 will rock current-generation GeForce GTX 1050 and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU options, and also a next-generation GeForce GTX 1160 with 6GB of memory. We presume that means 6GB of GDDR6 memory, but we'll have to wait and see.
As to the rest of the laptop configuration, it's said to feature an 8th generation Intel Core i7-8750H processor, 16GB of DDR4-2666 RAM, and a 256GB solid state drive supplemented with a 2TB hard drive. All of this will power a 15.6-inch IPS display with a 1920x1080 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Sounds pretty gnarly (slang definition) if you ask us.
