HP Recycled 135,200 Metric Tons of Electronics in 2017

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Corporate Sustainability Report published by electronics manufacturer HP indicates significant jump in recycling rate for its products across the world during the previous year. The company’s recently published 2017 Sustainable Impact Report notes that it achieved 17% recycling rate. In 2017, HP recycled 135,200 metric tons of electronics and additional 16,300 metric tons of ink and toner cartridges.

HP had partnered with nearly 1,500 Best Buy locations in 2016, to offer closed-loop recycling of HP products. The program successfully recovered around 3,200 metric tons of recycled plastics by the end of 2017, which was used in the manufacture of printers. HP has increased the recycled content in those devices to more than 20% in 2017. The company plans to further increase the recycled content in 2018. Also, it aims to include recycled plastic in more HP products, the report said.

Since the launch of closed-loop recycling program in 2016, HP has recycled 271,400 metric tons of products. The company aims to recycle 1.2 million metric tons of material by 2025.
