Solid gold ‘iPhone XS’ already on sale for £100,000 – before Apple has even announced the phone
APPLE'S new iPhone won't be officially revealed until September, but it's already available for pre-order – if you've got a spare £100,000.
British gold-plating firm Goldgenie is flogging a ritzy version the upcoming iPhone XS as part of its new "Billionaire Solid Gold Edition" range.
Goldgenie regularly kits out gadgets with gold-plating, diamonds and other jewels, inflating the price in the process.
The company won an investment from James Caan on Dragons' Den back in 2007, and has jewelled up gadgets like the iPhone, iPad and iPod.
Now Goldgenie is offering a numbered series of 23 Billionaire Edition 2018 iPhone models, with a total value of £2.3million.
"The gold iPhone XS Billionaire Edition is the brand's most luxurious product to date," the company explains.
Goldgenie isn't kidding – the limited edition model is plated in 24-karat gold.
This fact will be emblazoned on the back of the device too, so you'll be able to show off your fancy blower's true worth to absolutely everyone.
Each phone will be numbered 1-23, and will be stamped with the Gold standard Assay Hallmark at Goldsmiths Hall in London.
But that's not all.
"This device not only has a solid gold rear back but also comes with our own 24/7/365 day concierge service for five years to enable you to live like a real billionaire," Goldgenie promises.
This service includes "sourcing information ahead of a transaction, financial advisory services, securing exclusive access, coordinating travel, organising events and personal assistance".
The order includes the iPhone XS Billionaire Edition, a luxury cherry oak-finish box, Apple EarPods, a Lightning to USb Cable, a 5W USB Power Adapter, and all the usual documentation.
Not got a spare £100,000 right now? Don't worry: you can secure your own Billionaire Edition iPhone with a 50% deposit for now, which means you only have to pay £50,000 upfront.
Goldgenie's phones will be available on a SIM-free basis, and will be unlocked to work on any network.
Importantly, Goldgenie's plating system doesn't interrupt communications tech inside your phone.
That means NFC (for contactless payments), wireless charging and the phone's radio antennae should still work.
The bad news is that the phone won't be available immediately.
You'll have to first wait for Apple to officially announce the product – we're expecting that to take place on September 11 and 12.
Then Goldgenie will need to secure some units and plate them. So the Billionaire Edition is scheduled for "several weeks after" the official Apple launch.

Apple is expected to make some major changes to its iPhones this year.
Last year, Apple introduced the fancy new iPhone X (for £999) which has a new all-screen design.
This year, all three rumoured iPhones are expected to use the same slick design, and boast Apple's Face ID face-unlocking feature.
That means we'll see bumped-up screen sizes too: expect 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch models (up from 4.7 inches, 5.5 inches and 5.8 inches).
