Intel India has trained 99,000 people in AI in the past 16 months

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a relatively unexplored field of Computer Science, which is steadily growing in popularity as well as commercial use. A few days ago, Samsung announced a multi-billion dollar investment in AI and 5G, LG launched its first AI lab in Canada, and Google announced that it would provide advertisers with machine learning tools to deliver targeted ads to potential customers.

Now, Intel India has announced that it has trained over 99,000 people in AI over the past year or so.

The Economic Times reports that in April 2017, Intel announced an AI training program in India, in which it set a target of training 15,000 people for its first year. However, it appears that the firm has easily surpassed its goal, with a total of 99,000 people now trained in AI in 16 months. Prakash Mallya, managing director for sales and marketing, Intel India, had the following to say regarding the accomplishment of this feat:

Though we had committed to train 15,000 developers, students, and professors in AI initially through training and workshops, we have already exceeded the target over seven-fold at over 99,000 by roping in many of them from 100 organizations.

This 99,000 figure has reportedly also tied Intel with some top educational institutes in India in terms of AI developer education. Last week, the US firm successfully held its first flagship AI conference in India, the DevCon 2018 as well, an event which was attended by over 500 developers.
