Intel Corp. has begun narrowing its search for a new chief executive officer and could bring in an outsider to lead the world’s second-biggest chipmaker for the first time.

More than two months after the abrupt ouster of Brian Krzanich, Intel has made initial contact with several candidates, identifying some that want the role and others who aren’t interested.
