Check Device Compatibility

There's no point in waiting for a piece of software if your hardware can't handle it at all. Thankfully, iOS 12 supports all devices that are capable of running iOS 11 so that's great news already.

Still, if your device is not in the list below then you are out of luck:

  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone SE and iPhone 5s
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (both generations)
  • 10.5-inch iPad Pro and 9.7-inch iPad Pro
  • iPad 6 and iPad 5
  • iPad Air 2 and iPad Air
  • iPad mini 2, 3 and 4
  • iPod touch 6th-generation

Backup Your Data Right Now

Whether you're performing an over the air install or a clean one using iTunes, it's best to keep your data nice and secure using iTunes or iCloud. Do it right now so in case something goes wrong you'll have a backup of everything to go back to.

We're very serious about this.

Download iOS 11.4.1 Just in Case

What if you don't like iOS 12? Then you need a backup plan of going back to iOS 11.4.1. So download the IPSW beforehand. You can download iOS 11.4.1 from here: Download iOS 11.4.1 IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Free Up Some Space (OTA Method)

If you are going to install the iOS 12 final update over the air then you need to make sure you have ample amount of free space on your device before proceeding. If we are to give a suggestion, then free up at least 4GB of space or at least a minimum of 3GB. The more free space you have, the better the chances of everything going through smoothly otherwise iOS will just throw you an insufficient storage error, forcing you to free up more space.

Keep Your Charger and Lightning Cable Ready

While the installation process is taking place over the air, it's best to put your device on charge and connected to an AC outlet at all times. Though this is not necessary if you have ample amount of battery on your phone (say, 80% or more) but it never hurts to take extra precautionary measures.

Make Sure iTunes is Installed on Your PC (Clean Install Method)

Planning to do a clean install of iOS 12 final on your device, then make sure you have iTunes installed on your PC (download from: apple.com/itunes). iTunes comes preinstalled on a Mac so you're well covered there.

Now We Wait

If you're done with everything above, it's time to put on your waiting face. We'll publish relevant guides and notifications as soon as iOS 12 goes live tomorrow.
