Apple Releases Golden Master of Shortcuts App Just Ahead of iOS 12 Public Release

Apple Releases Golden Master of Shortcuts App Just Ahead of iOS 12 Public Release

Apple on Friday released the golden master of the Shortcuts app that will be available to the public with this week’s iOS 12 public release. A golden master (GM) release is the final version that will be released to the public.

Apple’s release notes indicate that new actions, which were not available during the beta testing period, have been added, as it lists “Limited actions available in beta” as an issue that is resolved with this release.

While access to the Shortcuts app was limited to developers, via the Testflight app, the app will be available to the general public as of Monday’s expected release of iOS 12.

The Shortcuts app allows users to create “shortcuts” made up of multiple steps using both first and third-party apps that can then be activated by using a Siri voice command. During Apple’s June WWDC Keynote, the new app was demoed with a custom “I’m heading home” phrase to Siri. The phrase kicked off a chain of commands that texted a preset message to a contacts, adjusted a HomeKit compatible thermostat, turned on a fan, displayed estimated travel time, and began playing NPR.

Apple is expected to release iOS 12, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12 to the public today, Monday, September 17. If Apple follows it’s usual release tradition, the new operating systems will be available as of 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
