Retailers Are Clearing Stock Of Old MacBook Laptops

This article is more than 5 years old.

Apple may not be saying anything, but US retailers are making space on their MacBook shelves. Are they clearing stock ahead of an update to the macOS powered laptops?

Apple PR

Tim Cook and his team focused most of the media’s attention on the updates to the iPhone X family at the recent launch event. While some light was shared with the Apple Watch and the potential impact of the EKG and AFib monitoring (although with the Apple Watch not shipping with these headline features you might not want to compare it to the successful roll-out of the AirPower wireless charging system).

That meant the expected updates to the iPad family, and the wished for refresh of the MacBook line-up didn’t make the cut. The geekerati are looking forward to Apple reviving the ’second line’ launch event in October to reveal the new hardware - and if you wanted to be sneaky, an event around the launch of the iPhone XR would give a little more juice to the slightly less expensive iPhone.

While there is no confirmation from Apple on upcoming events, a number of US retailers have posted some big discounts on existing Mac stocks (see herehere and here for some of them). I can’t think why they would be looking to clear stock ahead of a potential Apple event in mid-October.
