The incident took place at the Apple Store in California's Santa Rosa Plaza shopping centre.

It happened just two days after Apple started selling its new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which cost between £999 and £1,449 apiece.

YouTuber Yodaisgod2, who captured the footage, said: "I was at the Santa Rosa Plaza and I saw these six guys in jeans and hoodies making their way to the Apple Store.

"I knew something was about to go down so I recorded it."

Speaking to The Sun, the person who shot the footage said: "As I was heading over to the Apple Store, I saw about six individuals putting their hoods on and making straight for the store.

"This store was hit about three weeks ago so I figured it was happening again."

The video shows the six men entering the store wearing hooded jacks.

They soon start clearing out gadgets on the front tables, where Apple's latest iPhone models were positioned.

Audio of Apple Store alarms can be heard – the sirens are triggered when demo units are removed from their mounts.

One of the thugs fleeing the store even drops a pricey iPhone as he makes his escape.

Customers and staff at the store can be heard shouting as the crooks run off through the shopping centre.

Fortunately, staff and shoppers managed to track down one of the escaping suspects.

The person recording the footage told us: "The guy that was caught appears to be the last guy out of the store.

"I heard some yelling off to my left near the front of the Sears entrance, so I went over to see what was happening. Then proceeded to film them taking him down."

They held him by the neck, and eventually pinned him to the floor.

One of the people holding the crook can be heard saying "your friends are gone, man", while struggling to restrain him.

"Last of the hood rats got caught by a good Samaritan and mall security," said the YouTuber who filmed the footage.

Writing on the social media site Reddit, he added: "Innocent people could have been hurt.

"I stuck around and when the police arrived, I spoke to one of the officers and emailed him the video."

The Santa Rosa Police Department confirmed the incident took place, and is now looking for more information.

"On Sunday September 23, just after 1pm, several thieves entered the Apple Store at the Santa Rosa Plaza mall and ran away with multiple devices," a spokesperson said.

"The theft is currently being investigated by the Santa Rosa Police Department's Property Crimes Investigative Team.

"We are looking for any cell phone video, photographs or any other information leading to the identification of these thieves."

It's possible that Apple may be able to trace or remotely deactivate the stolen gadgets.

It comes just a few months after a very similar incident took place at another Apple Store in California.

In July, hooded crooks were filmed by CCTV snatching more than £20,000 worth of pricey Apple gear.
