“We are excited to bring HomeKit support to Rachio customers,” said Chris Klein, CEO and co-founder of Rachio. “HomeKit users already have a smart home, and now they can have a smart yard, too. Rachio consumers have been asking for HomeKit integration, and we are excited to deliver it to them with our new Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller.”

A bit like a smart device such as the Nest thermostat, the smart sprinkler system can make more informed decisions about when to come on or switch off.

In this case, it allows you to create tailored schedules, but also to make automatic weather adjustments without you having to make them manually. Its Rachio Wireless Flow Meter additionally allows it to detect leaks and fine-tune watering accuracy.

HomeKit integration is available starting today for Rachio 3 owners throughout the U.S.

If you’re not already the proud owner of a Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller, you can order one through the company’s website (or elsewhere), with prices starting at $229.99 for an 8-zone system. A 16-zone version will set you back $279.99.

Apple introduced its HomeKit software framework back in September 2014 with the launch of iOS 8. Manufacturers of HomeKit-enabled devices are part of Apple’s MFi Program, referring to devices made for the iPhone, iPod, or iPad.
