How to Fix Connectivity Issues on Your iPhone XS

Few things are more frustrating than slow data speeds, especially on brand-new devices that are supposed to outperform earlier versions by a lot. Unfortunately, since the iPhone XS and XS Max hit stores last Friday, users have reported wifi and cellular connectivity issues, including slower tested speeds than the iPhones they replaced.

While the internet has mixed opinions on what’s causing these slowdowns, there may be a quick fix for some iPhone XS and XS Max connectivity problems. According to this Reddit thread, resetting your phone’s network settings could significantly boost your cellular upload and download speeds.

First, download a simple app like Speedtest, run it, and note which location it connects to for its transfer tests. Also, write down the numbers you get on your wifi and cellular connection.

Then, open your Settings app and go to General > Reset, and then tap “Reset Network Settings.” When you do this, you’ll also clear out your saved wifi networks and passwords, as well as any cellular and VPN preferences. You’ll have to go through and re-enter these connections again.

Re-run Speedtest (from the same location and wifi network—if applicable), pick the same testing server as before, and compare your numbers. With luck, you’ll see a performance bump. If not, at least you did all you could (so far) until Apple comes up with a fix.
