It’s time to gear up for Fortnite season six.

The mammoth update, available today across all platforms, brings new areas to explore, new consumables that make you invisible to your enemies, and pets that you carry with you wherever you go. It also removes a number of popular items from the game to make room for others.

Fortnite is one of the only games you can play right now that’s constantly evolving. Its weekly updates bring new content and game modes that make it near impossible for players to get bored. But new seasons bring the biggest changes.

Season six doesn’t disappoint, with massive alterations to the Battle Royale map, adorable pets that accompany you into battle, and lots more. Cancel your plans for the weekend because there’s literally nothing you could do that’s more exciting.

Fortnite season 6 is here!

Once again, the most significant changes in Battle Royale are to the map. Loot Lake is no longer a boring ghost town; there’s now a floating platform in its center that attracts plenty of action. There’s also a haunted castle to explore just outside of Haunted Hills.

In areas like Fatal Fields, tall crops let you hide from your opponents when you’re low on health. And in areas where the cube has been, you’ll find new Shadow Stones that make you invisible and allow you to walk through walls.

You won’t be able to use weapons after consuming a Shadow Stone, which lasts for around 45 seconds. But you can sneak up on your opponents with increased movement speed and jump height, then shoot them in the back once the effect has worn off.

Fortnite weapon changes

Epic Games has made some big weapon changes in season six, and a lot of players won’t like them. For a start, a bunch of weapons and items have been removed.

Impulse grenades, the silenced submachine gun, the light machine gun, bouncer pads, and remote explosives have all been vaulted. There is nothing to replace them just yet, but you can be sure new weapons and items will take their place in future updates.

Other items have been tweaked. The Grappler now offers just 10 charges instead of 15, and damage dealt by the double-barrel shotgun has been reduced significantly.

Other changes in season six

You don’t have to enter battle alone anymore. Season six brings pets that you can carry on your back, including dogs, dragons, and chameleons. They don’t go much, but they will react to different situations and they’re incredibly cute.

You will unlock pets by leveling up your Battle Pass. There are over 100 new rewards to unlock this season, including brand new costumes, gliders, pickaxes, and now background music.

Console players can now choose their own button configurations, and those who play with a keyboard and mouse on PlayStation 4 will be matched with PC players so it’s a little fairer for those playing with a controller.

A number of big enhancements have been made to game performance — especially on the Nintendo Switch — and lots have bugs are squashed in this update, too.
