How to measure altitude with iPhone

Whether you’re heading for some adventures soon, or just like knowing things like your current elevation, follow along for how to measure altitude with iPhone.

iPhones have an impressive amount of sensors inside, but there’s not a default app that comes with iOS that gives users altitude measurements. I’ve tried a variety of apps and the one I like the best for checking elevation is My Altitude. It’s a free app with what I think is the best interface compared to the competition.

How to measure altitude with iPhone

  1. Download an app like My Altitude
  2. Open the app to see your current altitude
  3. Customize your settings for metric or imperial units

In addition to checking altitude and more in the app, My Altitude features a handy Today View widget.

You can also download NOAA data files for elevation data from around the world. This is useful if you know you’ll be in locations without cellular coverage. My Altitude does include ads with free version, a $0.99 in-app purchase removes them.

Another highly rated free option with $0.99 in-app purchase to remove ads is Current Altitude. Although this app doesn’t seem as robust as My Altitude.
