The official Twitter app for iPhone and iPad can now help you cut down on your data usage.

Its new data saver feature takes steps to reduce the amount of data required to load tweets in your timeline. It’s also a blessing for those who like to avoid auto-playing videos.

Most of us have beefy data plans these days, so we never have to worry about going over our allowance. However, plenty of iPhone and iPad owners get by with a lot less to save on their cellular plan. That’s why many apps now offer data-saving options.

Twitter is the latest.

Twitter’s new data saver feature for iOS

Twitter version 7.33 adds a new data saver feature that can help you cut down on your data usage. You can find it inside the “Settings and privacy” menu.

“When enabled, videos won’t autoplay and lower-quality images load,” Twitter explains. “This automatically reduces your data usage for all Twitter accounts.”

Media won’t look quite as pretty, then, but you won’t waste data on pictures you didn’t want to see anyway. What’s more, you won’t have to suffer auto-playing videos, which many users would prefer to avoid anyway.

You can also tweak Twitter’s data usage settings manually to allow high-quality images and videos to load only when connected to Wi-Fi. This means you’ll only have to view low-resolution images when you’re on the go.

Update Twitter today

Today’s Twitter update also brings a simpler way to manage who’s in your group messages, VoiceOver improvements, and better labels for certain types of ads. You can download it now from the App Store.
