iOS 13 Concept Showcases Windowed Apps, Dark Mode, Always-On Display, More [Video]

Apple’s iOS 12 is barely a month old but attention is already turning to what Apple may or may not add to iOS 13. The release will likely not be with us until September 2019 with an initial beta outing around June 2019, but that isn’t going to stop anyone from getting excited about what could be the next big thing.

When Apple announced iOS 12 during WWDC 2018, it said that it was focusing on stability and speed improvements, and while we did see some new features added including Siri Shortcuts, Apple was true to its word. It’s fair to say that iOS 12 is Apple’s best software release in some time, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t lusting after some great new features and, if at all possible, a bit of a visual redesign. Enter a concept video by Jacob Rendina.

Kicking off, Rendina immediately gets down to business showing us what multitasking could look like on an iPad, way beyond what we have now. Windowed apps have been wished for over the last few years and this concept delivers. We even get split-screen apps on the iPhone, something that makes plenty of sense given the large iPhone XS Max.

Of course, no iOS concept is complete without a Dark Mode, and this one is no different. Given the arrival of a system level Dark Mode in macOS Mojave, we would not be surprised to see this come to iOS 13, but we dare not hope. The same goes for the always-on display and yet more revamped notifications, but we’ll see.

Rounding things out, we have support for multiple accounts on iPads, something that really should have been there long before now. We can hope iOS 13 does the business, but until we see it working and on-stage, we’ll expect a few tweaks and more speed improvements. Please surprise us, Apple.
