In the meantime, the download page serves version 1803

Windows 10 October 2018 Update is no longer available for download from Windows Update, and because the bug that led to this decision could cause the removal of user files, Microsoft has also pulled the other download options for the new OS feature release.

In other words, if you’re looking into alternative ways to get the October 2018 Update during the time Microsoft performs its own investigation, you won’t find any.

The Media Creation Tool, which could be used to create installation media and to upgrade computers to Windows 10 October 2018 Update, now serves the April 2018 Update once again.

Meanwhile, the ISO image download page that allowed us to download an OS image and start from scratch no longer provides the official files for the October 2018 Update, but only the previous versions that provided download links for the April 2018 Update.

No ISOs available now

This means you can’t get the October 2018 Update from any official links, though it goes without saying that finding unofficial mirrors hosting the original ISOs published by Microsoft last week isn’t really impossible. However, if you do download the original ISO images, you better not install the October 2018 Update without backing up your data first.

The bug that triggered Microsoft’s decision to pull the plug on the October 2018 Update removes user files from upgraded computers.

New ISOs allowing for a clean install of Windows 10 October 2018 Update will be published when the rollout resumes, as Microsoft doesn’t want more systems to be impacted by the data loss bug until a fix is offered.

An ETA isn’t yet available, but it’s pretty clear that Microsoft is working around the clock on getting this fixed, especially as the automatic rollout via Windows Update is projected to begin tomorrow. October 9 is also Microsoft’s October 2018 Patch Tuesday, so further updates for Windows devices would be released too.
