HP today launched strikingly redesigned Spectre x360 and Elitebook x360 1040 convertible laptops. The former is aimed at consumers and professionals, while the latter is for business customers.
“Traditional boundaries between personal and professional lives are blurring,” HP president Alex Cho said in a prepared statement. “People want technology that seamlessly adapts to the way they live and work, as well as devices that allow them to express who they are as individuals. Our latest Spectre and Elite innovations deliver an unmistakable sense of style, while also setting new standards for performance, connectivity, and security.”

And these designs are indeed stunning.
The new Spectre x360 is available in both 13- and 15-inch versions, and each offers a newly more angular design that is sure to turn heads. Both feature 8th-generation Intel Core CPUs, of course, optional LTE connectivity, and up to QHD OLED displays. They can be had in Dark Ash Silver (with copper highlights) or Poseidon Blue (with pale brass highlights).
The most striking bit, perhaps, is the back corners of the keyboard deck, each of which features a faceted corner. So the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port (on the right) and power button (on the left) aren’t pointing directly to the sides.
The 13-inch version is described as having the best battery life, 22.5 hours, of any convertible PC. It now features a fingerprint reader, is smaller, thinner, and lighter than the previous model, and has smaller bezels. Prices start at $1150.
The 15-inch version sports a full numeric keypad, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 or GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics, a fingerprint reader, and two angled USB-C ports. Prices start at $1390.
Both products are accompanied by a new HP Spectre Rechargeable Mouse 700 (in three colors), the HP Spectre Tilt Rechargeable Pen (or HP Pen), a variety of HP carry-ons, and a USB-C Travel Port Replicator.
As for the business side of the fence, the 5th-generation Elitebook x360 1040 is described as the world’s smallest and lightest 14-inch business convertible. It is 10 percent smaller and 31 percent thinner than its predecessor, and it weighs under 3 pounds.
The new 1040 features a natural, non-painted finish, a 700 nit outdoor-viewable touch display with integrated Sure View security, gigabit LTE capabilities, up to 17 hours of battery life, and HP fast charge capabilities. It can be had with up to 32 GB of RAM, 2 TB of storage, and can drive two external 4K displays.
It starts at $1499 and is accompanied by a new HP One Touch Login fingerprint mouse ($49) that integrates with Windows Hello and an HP EliteDisplay E243d 23.8-inch docking display with a privacy webcam ($329).
