Updates to log access apps Consolation 3 and RouteMap

I have updated my two free apps which give access to the unified log in Mojave and earlier. The main change is that both Consolation, my general-purpose log browser, and RouteMap, which works with Signposts in Mojave and earlier, are now notarized for your added security.

Consolation 3.0b17 also has a minor bug fixed, and updated documentation which gives full details of Mojave’s changes to the log. The bug was that the last line in Rich Text exports of log extracts was set in black which didn’t change with system appearance, making it almost invisible when viewed in Dark Mode. Like the rest of the extract, that line now changes colour with the appearance setting.

I have also assembled an updated version of my Signpost Kit, which includes RouteMap, blowhole, Whither, source code showing the use of Signposts, and additional documentation. If you are interested in writing to the unified log in any version of macOS from Sierra, you should look at this first, as it could save you a lot of time and effort, whether you’re using a scripting language, coding in Swift, or anything in between.

Hi,

slightly offtopic, but do you plan to add some options/preferences to DelightEd which would allow for less contrast? I’m a dark-mode sucker too, but this is not how i like it. Brightest white content on darkest black background is as disturbing/flashing as its inverse. I’m a designer and maybe more sensitive about colors and shades and balance, could you use a darker grey bg with a white for the characters which is less than FFFFFF? Or perhaps add some option in preferences for users to manually set it up as they like? I was glad to stumble upon a true dark mode fast and quick RTF editor, but i can’t bear working with such contrast, it burns my eyes out. Nonetheless, thanks for creating/sharing it.

  Goodness – I’ve been hearing from a few people who seem to be taking DelightEd more seriously than I ever intended.
  The reason that I wrote it was that I wanted to create screenshots of the RTF that Consolation and others generate in colour. It was only ever a quick hack, but seems to have found a little gap in the market.
  Yes, you’re quite right, its standard defaults are far too high contrast for serious editing.
  I’m just about to go back and look at some related issues, and will see how I might tweak it. One thing that I have to be careful with is the underlying RTF, which isn’t particularly flexible, but I will look and see what I can do. Don’t expect miracles in a couple of days, but I will get back later this week.
